Palestra MR3: Developing Data Literacy through the STEM Investigation Process in Classrooms

Minicurso M1:  Experiencing STEM investigations and Discussing Statistical Outcomes

Objetivo:  An integrated approach to STEM education in the classroom provides opportunities for students to engage in learning experiences that are embedded in real-life meaningful contexts and to make connections among the STEM disciplines. Although implementing integrated STEM activities in the classroom can be challenging because of the demands it puts on teacher knowledge, resources, and time, the benefits of drawing on one discipline to enhance the learning of other disciplines make the effort worthwhile.

In this workshop, participants will get a hands-on experience working through integrated STEM activities suitable for the classroom, such as firing catapults and making sausages. Through a focus on data collection and analysis, participants will apply the engineering design process, identify the science concepts addressed, and reflect on their learning to develop an appreciation of the issues that teachers need to address and the questions that can be posed for students when incorporating integrated STEM activities in their classrooms.
